Welcome back to The Way I See It! Today I am sharing with you an art demo video for the illustration, which you can see above, that I created for episode 7 of The Way I See It Podcast! This is one of a series of 8 illustrations each representing in visual form the concepts I discuss in each podcast episode. (If you would like to listen to any episodes, you can do so here.)
I had fun coming up with a visual concept for Give Your Self a Voice. One of the issues I address in the episode is when you feel unheard. So I decided to use megaphones as a motif of sorts and a emblem of action and amplification for that voice being heard, which is of vital importance! Often when I begin a new illustration, I don’t plan the color scheme in advance, as was the case here, using warm colors of orange, red, and wine/purple. Lots of layers went into each aspect as you will see if you watch the demo. I always enjoy the process of determining what type of lettering I will use, and how it will impact the overall visual impact of the message. I really wanted the SELF to pop, so I kept the letters white inside for that purpose, and for the SELF to Shine! And the VOICE can have some flair, with an unusual design element of almost a winglike appearance, so your voice can have lift and carry where it needs to go! Her stance with the hand on the hip is one of authority, saying, “I mean business.” So we better listen! Are we listening to our own voices? What about our message really resonates the most and why is it important to us? Take these questions to your journal for deeper clarity as you look to give yourself a voice…because you deserve to be heard. Do watch the demo and let me know in the comments what you think or if so, how you were inspired in your own creativity. :) Note: Background music is a piano rendition of my spiritual song, My Way Home.
