ABOUT ME
My name is Dawn Herring. Artist, Illustrator, Aspiring Musician and Avid Journal Keeper.
I am a woman who enjoys vibrant color, art supplies, compelling movies, memoir, and music.
I love to express myself through paint, fabric, song writing and playing piano, writing my thoughts, journal keeping, and prayer.
My favorite sounds are the mocking bird, laughter that comes from the soul, melodies that speak to me, the voices that speak beyond words.
My favorite textures are layers of paint, paper, fabric in my art journal; soft plushy things, the bark of a tree, the soft fur on a cat, the crunch of cereal, and the look of pastel.
I am inspired by design, music that stirs my soul, deeply descriptive words that paint a picture in my mind or make me laugh, colors that sing, a story line that resonates and gives me something to contemplate.
You can find me playing spiritual songs on the piano, getting in the zone with my art journal, drawing cartoons, writing my thoughts in a journal, or laughing with or working in the office with my partner and husband, Bill.
I also enjoy going for walks as I listen to Art Juice podcast and doing Tai Chi to keep flexible and balanced as I age.
My Connection to Spirit is of vital importance to me; it’s where my intuition is most vibrant, wisdom is at the ready to help me gain clarity and where I receive songs that speak to my soul.
Here at Refresh with Dawn Herring: Where Beginnings are Celebrated, it is my aim to share with you my own Beginnings, from art to music to what is inspiring me right now so that you can be inspired toward your own creativity and experience the BEST of what that brings.

RANDOM FACTS YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT ME
I'm 5 feet tall.
I attended Morris County Vocational School for Commercial Art.
I prefer watercolor paint over acrylic due to its transparency and ability to be lifted once down on paper unless it's highly staining.
I started drawing at a very young age and enjoyed illustrating fashion and doing portraiture for many years.
I'm mom to two grown daughters.
I'm a grandma to one special needs grandson.
I've had two cats in my lifetime and hope to have another some day.
I grew up with cats my mother owned and it was such a thrill to get my very own once I was married 33 years ago.
I wear a size 5 shoe; so I am thankful for a company I buy shoes from who actually carry my size and makes shoes that work well for me.
I love vibrant color and the spiral as a motif. Design fascinates me and I love creating detail and texture with markers, pens and watercolor paint.
I have always loved fashion illustration and still enjoy drawing fashion, whether in larger form or in my evening illustration in my journal.
I love singing, writing spiritual songs and playing my new piano!
